Q. What is the tuition at St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy?
A. St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy tuition for the 2023-2024 school year is $10,850. Books, uniforms and athletic fees are approximately additional $500.
Q. Is there financial assistance?
A. We provide Need-Based and Merit-Based Financial Aid. Both Need and Merit Based Aid require submission of a PMA Admissions Application. The Catholic Education Foundation (CEF) also provides need-based financial aid for Catholic school students.
Q. How old is St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy?
A. We are blessed to have two founding schools and charisms that have been blended to create St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy. Pius X High School was founded in 1953 on the Downey Campus. St. Matthias High School was founded in 1960 at the Huntington Park Campus. St. Mathias High School transitioned to the Downey Campus as an all-girl’s school in 1998. In 2013, the co-educational St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy was established. We honor and learn from our two strong Catholic school traditions while building for the future.
Q. What is the best way to #DiscoverPMA on campus?
A. Each year, St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy’s Open House and Meet & Greet events provide students and their parents an opportunity to explore all that PMA has to offer. Prospective families are invited to get to know our community, meet teachers and students, tour campus, observe academic demonstrations and more. At this time, we are providing private tours to families. Please call the PMA Office to set up an appointment.
Q. Where is St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy located?
A. Our beautiful 17 acre campus is located in the City of Downey approximately 25 minutes driving distance from Downtown Los Angeles, Long Beach, Torrance, and Cerritos.
Q. Does St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy provide bus transportation?
A. Bus transportation is not provided by St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy. PMA has a designated student drop off area on Gardendale. Student parking is also available.
Q. Do students wear uniforms?
A. Students have both an everyday uniform and formal uniform for Mass, and other special events.

Q. Are students required to have a laptop or iPad?
A. All students are required to have either a MacBook or Chromebook. iPads or other models of tablets and laptops are not allowed. Laptops must be charged and ready to used every day in class. More information about device and technology requirements are available here.
Q. What about your lunch program?
A. We provide hot entrees that may be purchased from the cafeteria during lunch, as well as breakfast food during break. There are also a variety of sandwiches, salads and snacks available for purchase. There are also microwaves available for students bringing their own lunch.
Q. How are textbooks purchased?
A. It is the responsibility of the families to purchase or rent textbooks. Books can be purchased or rented through various online providers such as ecampus.com, chegg.com, or amazon.com.
Q. Does St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy have organizations for parents?
A. The Warrior Parent Association (WPA) and Athletic Booster Clubs are parent organizations that support students and the school. PMA is blessed to have involved and engaged parents/guardians at our school. The Parents in Prayer (PIP) Group gathers every other week to pray the Rosary and they hold fellowship together after.
Q. How strong is St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy's alumni community?
A. Our school history dates back to 1953 and we are over 100 graduating classes strong! St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy is blessed to bring together the diverse groups of alumni from Pius X, St. Matthias, and St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy. Through our alumni events, we bring together the diverse charisms and enthusiasm of these groups towards a common goal of connection and community rooted in Catholic Education.
Q. Do St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy students perform community service?
A. All students are required to perform a minimum of 25 hours of service each year. The Christian Service Program encourages students to reflect and think deeply about the impact their service has on their community, their world, and themselves. Most students go above and beyond their required hours, with PMA students contributing thousands of hours of service each year.
