Maker Space Inspires Students and Teachers

PMA's new MakerSpace is a new and innovative space for students and teachers to learn and create.

It all started in October, when students, teachers, and staff rolled up their sleeves to make PMA's Makerspace a reality. Students in PMA's CLIK (Computer Leaders and Innovators Krew) Technology Club, learned basic construction skills and safety, putting their stamp on the new space.

PMA teamed up with the non-profit T4T.org that uses recycled and repurposed materials to make sustainable STEAM Labs.

The lab is an innovative space open to all classes and students and includes basic tools such as saws, drills, workbenches, wrenches. Students also have access with a MakerBot 3D Printer and 3D Pens to bring their dreams into reality.

The MakerSpace is a response to the concept of 21st Century learning and the 4Cs of education: collaboration, creativity, communication and critical thinking in education. The core team of teachers for the MakerSpace consist of art teacher Ms. Arreola (St. Matthias HS Alumna), Chemistry and Physics teacher, Ms. Gomez (St. Matthias HS Alumna), and Dean of Curriculum and Instructional Technology, Ms. Nicdao.
