St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy (PMA) is excited to announce that work has begun on the first phase of the PMA Campus Master plan that was completed in the Spring of 2017. Through the generosity of the J.F. Shea Co. and the John H. & Cynthia Lee Smet Foundation, the school began the new construction and expansion of numerous projects on campus in the Fall of 2017.
Phase 1 projects include: the addition of a softball field; enhancements to the landscaping in front of the school including a new LED electronic marquee sign; the renovation of a campus residence which will be utilized by Loyola Marymount University’s, Partners in Los Angeles Catholic Education (PLACE) Corps program; modernization of selected classrooms, staff, and student restrooms, and selected HVAC projects in the main building; and finally the construction of a brand new state of the art football/soccer Stadium.
“This is a transformational moment for PMA and another example of our commitment and desire to better serve our families while making valuable contributions to the local community. Since transitioning to a coed school in August 2013, we have witnessed tremendous growth in the community we have the privilege to serve. Enrollment has increased and continues to grow as a result of a staff that is both passionate and committed to the formation and education of teenagers, innovative enhancements to academic and student learning programs, the expansion and development of athletic programs, the strong Catholic college preparatory curriculum, and the intimate family community atmosphere which permeates the schools environment. We believe we are ready to take the next step towards excellence and are extremely grateful to the J.F. Shea Co. and the John H. and Cindy Lee Smet Foundation for their generosity and support in manifesting the values of Catholic education here in Downey.” says PMA President, Erick Rubalcava.
